I didn't vote for him.
He ran for city council.
After the election, he wrote to the newspaper, saying something about how the police department ws racist because they took a picture with an asian girl (appartently he is asian and he thinks that was a racist attempt to ake them look less racist). I couldn't find the original article, but I suppose you could look for it at and see if you have more luck.
Anyway, yesterday I was reading the paper, and I was shocked (SHOCKED!) to read what this guy wrote:
City residents: ‘Remember these words ... I told you so’
To the Editor:
I am disappointed in my city and the people who live in it. What Nov. 4th has shown is that Lake Oswego has said no. No to limited city government. No to individual rights. No to transparency. No to democratic debate.
I could sit here and put a happy face on my reaction to the local election, but I’m an honest person; I was honest in my campaign for city council but it is obvious that the vast majority of Lake Oswegans would rather have sunshine blown in their faces than accept the truth. If it’s a fascist government Lake Oswego wants, it’s a fascist one you will get. If anyone needs help with the definition of fascism, here you go ... “a political philosophy that exalts nation above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation and forcible suppression of opposition.” This is exactly what Lake Oswego had in the old regime, and it’s what Lake Oswego will have in the new one.
When the city tears into your personal property to build LOIS (if they can ever decide on a location), or condemn someone’s property, think about how you voted. When the council uses your tax dollars to make questionable purchases without public democratic debate, think about who you voted for.
While I am disappoincity of lake oswego policeted in many, there are just under 2,000 Lake Oswegans that voted for less government, open debate, and individual rights. I thank each and every one of you. I will continue to challenge the council and mayor when they force their fascist liberal agenda upon the tax payers of Lake Oswego.
Remember these words ... I told you so.
Devin Holz
Former Candidate for Lake Oswego City Council
WOW!!!
So, what did I do? I sent him an email, of course.
Here' what it said:
Mr. Holz-
I read your letter in the Lake Oswego Review (the I told you so one), and I must say, athough I didn't vote for you, that that was a pretty good argument. FOR A FIRST GRADER. Come on. I understand that you are unhappy about losing. I understand that you think you should have won. I get it. What I don't understand was exactly what you were trying to accomlish in that letter, besides making you look like a sore loser. YOu were the only candidate that outright insulted everyone in LO, with the exception of less than 2,000 people. You spent less than one sentence thanking people, and spent the rest hurling insults. I mean, Fascist liberals? Not only is that an oxymoron, it is absolutely an inappropriate thing to say in a newspaper. I know the first amendment gives us free press and free speech, but nobody read your article and said, "You know, I didn't like that Holz guy at the beginning, but now I wish I voted for him. No. Your original supporters can't believe they voted for you, and the people who didn't ever support you are damn glad that they didn't. The article that you wrote about the police department taking a picture with an Asian girl, I didn't like that article either. It could have been a coincidence, you know. That is one reason so many people didn't vote for you. You jump to conclusions and dont think before you speak (or publish a letter). That time, however, was forgivable, city of lake oswego policebecause you were just saying what you believe, even if it was a result of a conclusion jump. This time, however, you have publically isnulted al of us, and that WILL NOT get you support. Please, I would like to know what you were trying to accomplish with that letter, because it seems like we won't feel like we messed up, we will feel glad that you lost.

Well, here's how he responded:
Well, quite honestly I may have made an argument on a first grade level, but your grammar was about as good a pre-schooler. Oxymoron? Maybe you need to re-read the definition. It just shows you ignorance to the issue at hand. And, in fact, I am not sore about losing. People run campaigns for a wide variety of reasons; winning is not always first and foremost. If the people of Lake Oswego are as sensitive at a 5 year old girl, as you are, I couldn't care less. Cry me a river. To address the LO Police racism issue. They are racist. Maybe you should take a trip to city hall and inquire about the 5 most recent firings of police officers. The last person I'm going to listen to about what is, and is not racist is some ignorant caucasian. If you feel as thou
I think I would have voted for him.
Just for conversation's sake, I used to work with this guy and he is a total, utter, and complete douchebag. He was a laughingstock after the city council election, and is constantly running into conflicts with all sorts of people at work.
It's no argument that this Devin Holz is a huge douchbag and a sore loser at best. Here's the link to Newsvine to read more about him. He's a huge joke really, you can also follow him at @writer_nw on twitter to see all his hilarious rants
